Important things to know
We want you to make your decision with all the facts. Here they are, plainly.
Who we are
My Funds Advocate LLC is a private company registered in New York. We are not a government agency, a court, a county office, or a law firm, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.
You can claim the funds yourself
You do not need to hire us or anyone else to claim surplus funds. You can file a claim directly with the county, clerk, treasurer or court that holds the funds, at no cost.
Our fee
If you choose to work with us, our fee is a percentage of the funds recovered, paid only from funds that are actually recovered. The percentage depends on your state and is never more than your state's legal limit. We tell you the exact percentage before you decide, and it is written in your agreement. If nothing is recovered, you owe nothing. We cover all filing costs and attorney fees. Some expenses may be repaid to us from the recovered funds, but your total cost, our fee plus any expenses, will never exceed the agreed percentage. We never require an upfront payment. We may stop working on a claim at any time; if we do, you owe us nothing and are free to pursue the funds yourself or with anyone else. You can review the agreement in person before signing.
Attorneys and other experts
Some claims need a court filing or other specialized help, such as estate or title work. When they do, we hire and pay a licensed attorney or other expert to handle it. We do not provide legal advice ourselves.
No guarantees
Amounts shown in public records may change because of liens, other claimants, court decisions, or county procedures. We do not guarantee any amount, outcome, or timeline. Typical timelines are estimates: 4 to 6 months, depending on the county or court.
No tax or legal advice
Nothing on this website or in our communications is legal or tax advice. Receiving surplus funds may have tax or benefit consequences; please consult a qualified professional.
Your choice, always
Meeting with our notary does not obligate you to sign anything. You may decline at any time before signing. Any cancellation rights that apply under your state's law are described in the agreement.
State-specific notices
Some states regulate surplus funds services, including required disclosures, fee limits, and waiting periods. Any notice required in your state will be included in your agreement and provided before you sign.
